Dear Shellie,
A beam above the bed is considered Sha Qi. Sha qi is considered `pressing' down on the person occupying the bed.
The best remedy is to use the 6 coins concept:-
1. You can place 6 coins string together and tie it on the beam. Ensure that it does not fall off. (Ideally you should use the chinese coins with square holes in the centre).
alternatively,
2. You can cut pieces of silver foil into 6 rounded circles and stick them on this wooden beam.
Best that it is a wooden beam as the six coins represent `big' metal. Under the Five elements concept Ref: http://www.3dglobe.com/fs/5element.htm - The Destructive Sequence: Metal destroys Wood.
Therefore Big metal (6 coins) is used to destroy wood.
3. Other practioners recommend the use of silver foil with zig zag edges (again using 6 of these)
4. If you are using coins, you can hang them or string them with a red string and `try' to paste them on the beam or nail them on the beam. " I sincerely hope they do not fall and even worse hurt anyone ". Let's hope not. (Try to make sure they DO STICK.)
5. The higher the ceiling the better as the effects are further reduced.
6. Other more costly methods include getting a poster bed and place a lace sheet above the bed. Symbolically this act as a canopy or cover/shelter.
7. Other cures include placing two bamboo flutes in the profile of the trigram e.g.:-
___
/ \ <-- the two flutes are positioned as shown
Some FS practioners advise getting a Phoenix and dragon flute where the dragon flute is placed on the East or the left side while the Phoenix flute is placed at the right side. This is in my opinion considered not complusory thou.
For those who are new to this forum, you will usually find an advise especially if it is a cure related to the Five Elements Concept either thru an `element' e.g. Fire or its colour (Fire = Red or direction = South).
Non-tradtional Feng Shui usually go with `guts feeling' or talking about a direction, a definition e.g. career sector.
Hope the above helps.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
